Over the past 10 years, we have been working to build a Foundation that’s sole mission is to help families that have been impacted by either a premature birth, having a baby in a neonatal intensive care unit, or that have suffered the loss of an infant. With lots of prayer, a little bit of luck, and amazing people who have stepped up to donate time and energy to this mission, our Foundation has been able to increase the number of families we have helped each year since 2008. But, we are only scratching the surface.
- 1 out of every 4 Moms/Dads will experience the loss of a baby at some point in their life.
- 1 out of 8 babies is born prematurely.
- In Kent County alone there will be over 1,200 babies in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) this year. That is 1,200 families whose lives are turned upside down, inside out, and need to be supported.
In 2018, we hope to continue growing the number of families that our Foundation reaches and supports. To make that vision a reality we plan to establish relationships with additional hospitals, grow our resources network with local and national organizations that provide resources for families, and continue providing financial support to families who have been impacted by premature birth or infant death.
How We Work
We operate a very simple model: a large group of people can each give a little to make a big impact in one family’s life.
For us, that community supports families affected by premature birth and infant loss. We work directly with hospital social workers and families to determine what their needs are; we quickly share that need via email and social media with our members, asking for everyone to make up a small “piece of the pie” to meet that family’s need. 100% of the donations we receive for specific families go directly to helping that family. We, in turn, pay for goods and services on behalf of the family (we do not give cash to families) to ensure that our member’s dollars are being responsibly spent.
The larger our community, the smaller each member’s piece of the pie — and the more families we hope to ultimately support. So, if you’re a member, please consider sharing what you know about the Ella Bullis Foundation with others, encouraging them to join and give to families in need. You can quickly email on a needs request, invite a friend to attend an event or “share” our Facebook page with others.
